Vanquishing the Excuse: I have No Time

Vanquishing the Excuse: I have No Time

You may say: I have so much going on. I work 40 hours, have a family and no time.

Most people have the time and can find it. Instead of spending time in front of the television work on your business. Most people spend on average 3 hours a day watching TV. Don't believe me time your watching.

As an idea you may make this a family matter. Why not have the kids and spouse help you find houses that need repairs, are motivated and that you can purchase. You may make a game out of it.

The time is there you just have to use your time differently.

Wow!

That's so true! I've caught myself saying that too, and I don't even watch t.v.... LOL! I utilize any free time I have and try to work smarter and not harder to reach my rei goals. There are times when I'm exhausted and don't want to do anything but relax, but once I get past that and start on something rei related I find that I'm much happier that I did and the time flies by!

So True

I attest to that. I have for years spent a lot of time watching TV, until I bought DG book and access this site. When I look back and saw the amount of time I have wasted, I have decided to look to the future and my new REI success.

Time Management

This is a most essential skill to master for all aspects of your life - but especially when you add RE into the mix! I find it so addicting that I naturally phased out the time I spent with idle pasttimes....and I agree Elena..even when I'm exhausted I come to this site - or start searching house sites and I'm instantly back in the groove and refocused on my goals....I am so grateful for RE in my life - to experience the empowerment of controlling your own future is so motivating and liberating!!!!

I have been caught...

I have been caught myself watching television or idle activities when at the end of the day I ask myself: Where did the time go? I can then look back at my day and notice that I wasted it on this or that.

It is amazing to me that people spend 3 hours watching TV a day. Many who say to me that they have no time and do not watch a lot of TV will often admit to watching 2-3 shows a day. With a show being 1 hour that again is 2-3 hours, Astounding.

Time Budgeting

Here is a way to or find the amount of time you will use:
How much time per day do you sleep:
How much time do you spend working:
How much time do you spend getting ready for the day:
How much time do you spend traveling:
How much time do you do leisure:
How much time do you have left:

Great subject

The biggest waste of time (even more than TV) is working. Imagine wasting between 40-80 hours per week on someone elses dream.

I don't watch TV or have a job and time is still seems limited.

Right now I am experimenting with sleep deprevation and the long term side effects of living on 3 hours of sleep per day.

Amazing, I commend you on your efforts of working the business during the weekends. I know it takes a lot to do this kind of effort. There are always people that will succeed no matter how little time they may have. Again, I commend you and for anyone reading this realize you can do the business yourself.

thank you rhuges:)

I’m working on a deal right now that is taking some time because of my limited time. I found a house that needs a lot of work, the seller wanted 180K
I offered 150k, she took the offer, and I spoke to one of my rehabbers and said he would write a check if I could get it lower, I told the seller about the cash up front at 140K, she will let me know.
Now this very simple process had been a month now, so it can be done just takes a little bit longer.
So don't use time as an excuse, it may take a little longer than others but if you manage your time wisely and make a few sacrifices you will see that you have the time to do some of the little things that have to be done to get to the big picture.
I plan on shorting my sleep time a couple times a week, get up at noon grab a cup of coffee (something I need before I can do anything) jump in my truck and take a ride, look for houses for sale, take down the number, houses that look like they are in need of repair write down the address and the next day make phone calls. It will be slow at first but with a little persistence you can make it work, good luck and have a nice holiday.

Time

Wow this is a great subject, I try to us all my extra time on the site or reading a book to assit me in gaining knowledge in the REI area.

My full time job is a home health nurse, I drive around town seeing patients and when I am in my car I am always looking at house and making phone calls. My plan is to utilize this time to find houses for rent, locate the owner and mail them out a brochure/post card advertising my property management company.

But when I am at home I find it very hard sometimes not to just come in and sit on the bed or sofa from a long days work. The thing that keeps me plugging away is the joy of knowing that, at the end of the day when I am a Super Successful REI I will have a little more time to do some other things. Boy that is something worth looking for.

Time is What You Make It....

Right now I am sitting on a bench at Ohare Intl Airport on my way home to my family, reading the DG news, sending a PM to a DG member who's advise I value very much and choking on a hot dog and diet coke. Hell, if I have time to go on a 3rd walk-thru, go to work, fly to Chicago, visit customers to sell product, make a paycheck, pay bills, get some sleep, go shopping for my wifes birthday and Christmas gifts, and try to arrange the next deal to look at.
Well, I guess I got my point across. Everybody has situations and bridges to cross. In the end, we are all looking for the same thing, HAPPINESS AND FINANCIAL FREEDOM..........JAN

Suppose though...

Suppose there are those that are reading this information and they have a hard time getting away from the TV or off the couch. What do you do to drive your self forward?

Heres what I think....

My opinion is that the drive has to be in you to start. If you are at the right time in your life and really WANT to make change and move forward - you will. If you dont feel it in your heart and soul and want it so bad you can taste it - you wont. Its all in the timing!

Goals

Goals are, in my opinion, the best. They are the driving force.

If you create real goals and make them emotional, read them regularly, live them as though you have already accomplished them the goals will drive you.

There are studies and books showing that those who create goals and maintain them regularly make more money.

This is my idea. Any others?

Driving force.

I agree with the setting goals and also that it has to be inside of you. If a person sets their mind to something and backs it up with either a reward or consequence (whether it be real or imaginary) it becomes a challenge and you MAKE it happen.
I think of the following as a somewhat silly, trivial example but it's a common dilemna in Northern Wisconsin. When it snows 6 inches and the roads are icy and you have an appointment you don't really want to keep, a person can say "Oh the roads are bad, I guess I can't make it" and even convince yourself that it's true. But if it's something you REALLY want to do, it doesn't matter if it snowed TWELVE inches, you'd find a way to get there.

My favorite quote of Dean's is about the obstacles being in our minds, because I think we ALL face that. But once you overcome those, you can make anything happen!

There is a Story...

There is a story that goes something like this:
- A university did a study. In the study the university found that 3% of their student body made goals. They followed the student body for 10 years and found that the 3% that made goals made more money than the rest of the student body combined.

However true the story really is it shows a great point. Write goals, be consistent and you will make more money.
