Be a mentor find a mentor

I really like this website and love that the whole point of it is to learn from each other and to get a chance to network, but I was wondering if we do network and happen to invest in each other's investments, will that be a SEC violation. I am trying to find a good answer for that, but niether my real estate or corporate attorney has a good answer for it. They just kinda give me the run around. and since this is a mentoring thread thanks for any input and I would also like any good advice on investments and how REIT's are created. Thanks guys
