DO I NEED TO BE THERE FOR THE INSPECTION?

It’s not required, but it’s a good idea. Following the inspection, the home inspector will be able to answer questions about the report and any problem areas. This is also an opportunity to hear an objective opinion on the home you’d like to purchase and it is a good time to ask general, maintenance questions.

Inspection

To add to Craig's post, if you manage to be there as the inspection is going on, you become familiar with the property as well. I was an agent for 5 years and we were taught to always go thru the property with the inspector to make sure he is doing his job. Meaning that everything on the list is checked and cleared.
It will also help you to learn what to look for when you assess the property before inspection.
