Best Businessman in the Bible

Best Businessman in the Bible

I just had a bit of small fear invade me today as I met and talked with seller about a lease option purchase for a house she currently rents but wants out of it. I just don't have all the dots connecting yet.

Okay that leads me to when I got home; I really really am positive most of the time but I have my 'emotional' moments. I wanted to walk to ease some stress but it started raining hard. So I turned to a book I'm reading and the chapter was titled, "The Best Businessman in the Bible." Very appropriate for the way I was feeling. Well I'm not going to say what the chapter said right now. I'd like to see who you think this person might be. I didn't get it right btw. But I was blown away by the information and explanation and it made total sense.

And the Businessman Is?

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that frightens us. Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.”

And the Businessman Is?

My first though would be King Soloman because he was so wise. Then I think it has to be Matthew or Paul.

Thanks for all of your posts but so far none of the above. I don't want to say much more. There is real estate involved.

And the Businessman Is?

Joseph from Arimathea

The Best Businessman in the Bible is Abraham.

Best Businessman?

My guess would have to be Joseph whose brothers, the sons of Jacob, sold him into slavery and he beat all the odds to become an important adviser to the Pharaoh of Egypt. He began a slave and advanced to an important position. Just goes to show that a mind is a great tool.

King Saloman

Because it was one of the wisest and Israel was very prosper in his reign. Also Joseph the way he govern Egypt, and last Abraham because he left his country with nothing and end up with so much possesions that his nephew divided with him. One thing for certain was, all those great people were under God blessings and they were God fearing people.

I'd have to say JACOB!

~ my latter will be greater than my past ~

I have to say

Jesus, because he was a carpenter.

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

Prov. 16:3

Best Business Man In The Bible

I'd have to say it was Abraham

Saton may have been the most influential person in the Bible. After all, there was only ONE who was without sin. Look at the sales job he did on Eve.

Watch your thoughts; They become words,
Watch your words; They become actions,
Watch your actions; They become habits,
Watch your habits; They become character,
Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.

Are we still guessing?????

I said JACOB earlier, but the more I thought about it, I think it might have been JOB. He had it all...lost it all...and by the end of the story...had gained twice as much as he had in the beginning! Now that's great business skills!

ALOHA & Blessings!

Very Good Answers

Well the book I read and the chapter that was titled as such: The Best Business Man Ever is...

that was sold to slavery by his brothers and put in jail in Egypt and Pharoah promoted him for he was able to interpret the dreams. But to be honest I never really looked at the story in the way it was presented in the book I was reading. He was put in charge to plan for the famine years and he filled the place with lots and lots of grain. Egypt was the only place in town with all the grain and many people at first paid with money and when that ran out; Joseph just didn't give it away, they paid with their lambs/sheep, then their land; and then became servants to work for the grain and on and on. I'm trying to go from memory on what this book said. Anyway maybe look at the story again and look at it from this perspective.

See this book is titled, "Rich God Poor God". It's basically changing your mindset about money and wealth and what the bible truths are about money. Many in the church including leaders don't teach these principles. On the contrary sometimes it's the opposite. How many times have you heard, 'Money is the root of all evil'. The truth is the love of money is the root of all evil and basically God wants us to put Him first and money isn't evil. It can do many great things as Dean has showed us and many others.

Money is peace, freedom, joy. And I'm sorry if I offend anyone with this statement but I've had to really work hard on changing my perspective about money but here goes, "Money does buy happiness". Have you ever taken a vacation and enjoyed yourself, well, you had to pay for the trip that brought you that joy.

Anyway thanks for all of your guesses and I know some already guessed Joseph so way to go. Hats off to all who made a guess.

Oh I apologize for not getting on here yesterday. My mom had some minor surgery and my daughter and I had to go out of town for her Rotary foreign exchange program.

Anyway thanks again for participating
God Bless Everyone,

I knew it

My thinking was right, it was a guest I know what Joseph had been through before he was the governor of Eghypt. Through it all he never Question God. All we need to do is do the humanly part that we are responsible for and leave the big Job to the Lord, and He promise that He will take care of us.

Another Good Read

Just finished reading "The Richest Man Who Ever Lived" by author Steven K. Scott. It is about King Soloman's secrets to Success, Wealth and Happiness.

good insight

I also thought about Solomon and even Abraham. I believe Solomon to be the wisest of all and that wisdom brought him great wealth and he had to lead a nation out of a country that they were comfortable in but yet suffering too. Can you imagine trying to handle all of their complaints? I'm glad it wasn't me.

Abraham was told he would produce a nation that would surpass the number of stars-how great is that. David was the apple of the Lord's eye yet he killed a man and committed adultery. The list could go on about all the successful people in the bible.

And let's not forget about some of the successful women in the bible. I love love Proverbs 31 but yet it can be painful because I'm not like her (yet). Many of you know about home based business and some are known as network marketing companies but to be honest I think every business is networking and marketing because you have to promote your product or service. And to me the best one in the bible in that area is Jesus Christ--he had 12 men drop everything to join him and these were successful men in their own right and he trained them to follow him and his teachings through parables or stories. After Jesus died he told the disciples to share his story and spread the good news. Look what that has grown into; truly amazing if you ask me.

I'm open to anymore insights and such. I do love to read the bible, I don't always get to study it other than hearing what others teach me.

Thanks again for your responses.

Rich God Poor God

I realize this is an old post but I just came across it. I'm glad to hear about this book by John Avanzini, the most qualified I can think of to write it. I have so benefitted by his wisdom.

Abundance to you all. Alena.

Yes JESUS says, seek his kingdom first, and then become doers of his word! That means following the teachings of the bible, and his word, the ten commandments etc, etc.! He doesnt say that he will solve all our problems while we are here on earth, he says that he promises us a better place after we die, which is heaven, if we are true to his teachings! At the end of our journey which is death, JESUS is not concerned with how much we have, but he is concernced with our spiritual wealth according to his teachings. A person could have a lot, but not be in his favor, and a person could have nothing, but be totally in his favor because they were a doer of his word. The point is, its ok to want more money etc.,but never make that more important than JESUS, true wealth comes from spiritual knowledge put JESUS first and you will be blessed..

Rich God Poor God

The author of the book I read is by Leo Schreven; I didn't know there was mnore than one; I will have to check that one out as well and the one on Solomon. Again thanks for the posts!

On an added note...

Love the conversation here and the topic. Just wanted to add that if you are doers of the Word there is no way you should end your life with nothing(poor or impoverished). Thats not the will of God. His word says if we hearken diligently to His voice He will command the blessing upon us in our storehouse and our basket. What's that in modern day terms: our wallets and our savings accounts. A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children. Proverbs 13:22. There are hundreds more scriptures but the point is, its not the Lord's will for anyone to be in lack b/c He's not a God of lack, He's a God of more than enough and He takes great pleasure in the prosperity of His servant. Hey there's another one.Psalms 35:27.

It really is a mindset change that has to take place to believe these promises. God bless!!!

Thank you for posting and visiting. Your words are so true. How can they be wrong if they're from the bible? LOL

Yes And No!!!!

I think you are absolutely right.. the subjects of money and business are not taught or discussed as it should be in the church or other institutions of faith. In my opinion it has reached a level of actually being perverse just as other aspects of life have become like sex, family, government, education, etc. But all these problems are not policy problems, or healthcare problems, or money problems....they are people matter what legislation is passed or what new agencies are created, people will always find a way to overcome those things perceived to be obstacles; to achieve do good or bad...its human nature to do so...we have to change people!!! And we most certainly can!

Where i think the discussion in this thread is wrong is how money buys happiness...I believe money to be a reflection of your value of service to others...the more valuable your service is to your employer, your customer, your investors, your sellers, etc. the more money you will have....It is your service to and for others that buys happiness. Money is just a common means of exchange for that service. Whether your believe in God, or The Creator, or Allah, or The Light, Or Jesus, etc., the only way you can serve a higher being is by serving the creations of that being outside of yourself. Equip yourself to become the best servant you can by diligently reading, learning, asking, seeking, observing, searching and applying knowledge and wisdom. And for this you will be rewarded.

This is why the DG family is so great...regardless of our individual motivations, we all are actively seeking and applying knowledge and wisdom for the service of others. We see ourselves as investors, but we are more accurately serving as a very important link in a chain that enables others to have a place to live and establish their life. That service is extraordinarily valuable, thus our assignment fee (lol)...

In all seriousness though this is all my opinion only which i know is based from my experiences in life. I hope this feels true to whoever reads this as it does to me; but if not, you have to find what feels true to you based on your experience. After all, truth is relative and what's true today may not be true tomorrow...

Thanks for reading...i have to get back to serving!
Peace n Love

And one last thing..If you really want to learn about the book of Ecclesiastes in the bible, 3 times...its only 12 chapters...but its everything you need to know...well you decide...

Q: What Shall One Do When One Can Do Anything?
A: Prove It!!!

I agree with you that service is the most important factor. The reason I made the statement about money buying happiness is there are many negative statements daily about money and that's it perceived as a bad thing. I have had to change my mindset about money and what it truly can do for a person and I realize that it's the means to provide, do, and or be of service. For many years I wanted to adopt a child and get involved in real estate and I started many home business not really knowing what I was doing or what it could do for me. But so many negative things are said to me about money as I was growing up and about rich people for that matter. And I know full well those statements aren't truth. The ultimate goal for me in life is to serve my God and the people around me. Through REI I hope to make millions beyond my imagination so I can give back; leave a legacy for my family and future generations. There's a boy I met by a house that I just got my offer accepted and I am going to buy and give him the book, 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' or maybe the teen version. I want to impact the younger generation and everyone around me. I always felt like the ugly duckling in my family well now it doesn't matter as long as I can provide for myself as well as my daughter and most importantly my parents and a dear aunt. I don't want them to have to always depend on the government.

Anyway I love this conversation. I will read Ecclesiastes. Right now I am reading the bible from front to back and I am in the new testament book of John. I started in August on this adventure. Again thank you David for your insights and message. It's well taken.
God Bless,
