My interest in real estate goes back to my childhood. My grandfather had rental proptery in our hometown of Panama City, Florida. And, my maternal great-uncle once owned a stretch of Seagrove Beach. I remember they always had money and 'things' when many people didn't - that made an impression on me. For years I have intended to learn more about real estate investing, but somehow life got in the way. Now, I'm rapidly approaching retirement age and have nothing to retire on. No savings. Credit in the toilet. Lots of debt. Not a very shiny future.
Now, to complicate things, I have cancer. Had uterine cancer last year - had surgery and radiation treatments. Just when life seemed to be getting back to normal, I found a lump in my breast, and here we go again. Started chemo Jan. 6th and worked for as long as I could. Now, I am out on a medical leave with no income coming in. But God is good, and I feel that everything is going to be okay. So, while I'm on leave, doing nothing, wouldn't this be the ideal time to learn about real estate investing?? I thought so.
I've read DGs book BARM. Loved it, but I don't know enough and I'm not brave enough yet to begin. Have just ordered DGs home study course, and with all the info on the site, I'm excited about the prospect of actually becoming an investor and making some money.
I aspire to be debt free and financially independant. I know it will take time and energy and hard work. I ain't afraid of work. But, I'm not very techno savvy. I guess everybody has to start somewhere, right? I'm praying this will be a new beginning for me.
